Getting to Jaiharikhal

By Road (From Delhi) – about 6 hours travel

The best way to get to us by road is as follows:

Stage 1: Delhi to Meerut 70 kms. If you leave Delhi by 0600 hrs then one can go right through Meerut town, upto Begum Bridge and turn RIGHT on the Mawana  road ( NH 119).

If you leave Delhi later than 0600 hrs, then you should take the Meerut by-pass to avoid traffic delays. Drive approximately 9 kms  on the by-pass, and you will come across a second flyover. DO NOT go over this fly-over, but take a RIGHT turn from below the fly-over and proceed towards the Cantonment. After 3 kms you will  come  across another fly-over – but DO NOT go over this. Instead, take a left turn next to it and enter an  Army  gate. Proceed another 2 kms till you hit a T-JUNCTION, then take a RIGHT turn and cross a rail line, then immediately after that take a LEFT  turn and the natural turn to the RIGHT. You will  see another couple of Army gates on your right, and then come to a CROSS ROAD. Continue going STRAIGHT till you come to another CROSS ROAD where there is a huge Hanuman statue. Here you need to take a LEFT turn and after approx 800m take a RIGHT turn till you reach Sophia Girls Higher Secondary school. Keep the school on your right  and continue  going straight till you reach the Meerut- Haridwar highway. Here you will need to cut DIAGONALLY RIGHT, which is the road to Mawana/Bijnor.

BREAK: Stop over at Monty Millions a restaurant just 2 kms out of Meerapur. It has clean rest rooms & you can have breakfast/lunch depending on the time you reach there.

STAGE 2: Take a RIGHT turn from here to the barrage over the Ganges 15 kms away then onwards. Bijnor to Kiratpur is 16 kms and from there to Najibabad is 15kms and then another 25 kms to Kotdwara.

STAGE 3: 2 kms out of Doggada there is a T-junction. Take the LEFT turn on the PAURI road (the right turn goes to Lansdowne which is 23 kms from this point ). 15 1/2 kms from this turn one has to take a RIGHT turn for Lansdowne and Oak Grove Inn at Jaiharikhal is just 5.2 kms away.

You can download and Print our Road Guide (1 page PDF) here

By Rail (nearest station Kotdwar) – about 8 hours travel (7 hrs train + 1 hr road)

Take a train to Kotdwar railway station (40 km/1 hr from us). The best option is Mussoorie Express (dep: Old Delhi 10:15 pm; arr: Kotdwar 5:20 am) Hire a cab to Lansdowne, should be about Rs 750. We can arrange to pick you up from there.

TIP: Please fill up some fuel at Kotdwara on your way up. It’s cheaper in Uttarakhand than in UP 🙂

  1. A beautiful place with beautiful people. A wonderful experience. For the route suggestion for Stage 3 of route while going from Doggada

    – Stage 3: 2 kms out of Doggada there is a T Junc. Take the RIGHT Turn on the PAURI road to the Lansdowne town passing through the cantonment. Once crossing the parade ground and Alaknanda shopping complex, look for the TWO PRONG road and take the right road for JaihariKhal. The road is picturesque and also safe for late evening travellers.
However on way back suggest you to take the above mentioned road at Stage 3

  4. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality that you showered upon us, and of course, all the other families that we met there.

Kudos to the beautiful landscaping, the hang outs and hideouts…hope to see more of such arrangements as you mentioned…

Loved the feel of home away from home, with picturesque views, the misty mornings, the drizzles, the sunshine, the cool breezes, the serenity, the solitude, the innocence and the charm of the untouched greenery.

And spotting flying squirrels, drongos, and other so many different birds (the names I wouldn’t know) in natural surroundings was marvelous.. though missed spotting the leopard.. but still thank you for sharing the video of it.

We enjoyed the treks of about 12-14 kms in different directions…capturing the stillness around us. Loved the dips in the Hauz at Holi Talli village.

How can I forget our charming lil’ cocker spaniels, Archie & Fiffy… such adorable dogs.

We are already missing the great time we had in the wilderness, and had been blabbering 🙂 🙂 about it to whomsoever we are coming across…

A Big Thank You to you and Aunty for your hospitality. Hope to see you again sometime soon.

    Cheers 🙂

  6. The stay with the Rawats was one of the most memorable vacations I’ve had in a very long time. Colonet Rawat and Neelam mam were warm and hospitable, as were the staff. The highlight for me were the meals(a couple of them with the Rawats) that we had in the ‘Hang-Out’. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food simple and tasty. But above all, it is the behaviour of the hosts that will make you want to come back again.

A few photographs of Lansdowne and the experience in general can be found here-

  12. Hey,

Need room/rooms for 3 adults. Checkin on Saturday 04/25 and checkout on Monday 04/27. Pls provide available options along with tariffs.

  13. We decided to have a family get-together in Lansdowne from 18 Apr 2015 to 21 Apr 2015 .Our family consisted of three generations including daughters, sons in law and 2 grand-children aged 5 and 1. While there was a need for a home-like facility due to small grand-children, adequate privacy was also required for various family interactions. Oak Grove Inn proved just ideal for our requirement since we were provided three out of 4 double rooms on the top floor(the fourth room was vacant)with private varandah where our grand-children could move around freely besides providing space for round table activities for the adults.

It was one of the most comfortable, enjoyable and memorable vacations we have had in a very long time. Oak Grove Inn rates are reasonable for the services provided. The weather was nice and it is wise to carry light woollens round the year since it can get cooler with light rain particularly in the evenings The location of the Inn is picturesque just 5 Kms short of Lansdowne Cantonment town. The unspoilt nature and serene environment assures you a truly relaxing and rejuvenating holiday. Mobile network is excellent since the tower is just 400 Meters away. The owners, Colonel and Mrs Rawat are very warm and hospitable(and non-interfering) and go an extra mile to ensure that their guests are made comfortable and all their requests/requirements are met in the desired manner.

The highlight for us were the meals that we had in the ‘Hang-Out’ overlooking the valley. The beautiful landscaping, the hang outs and hideouts provide an unobstructed view of the valley and add to the beauty of the Inn.The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food was simple and tasty with hot rotis/pooris coming straight from the fire.

We drove down from Delhi and Col Rawat was kind enough to guide/advise us en-route whenever needed to ensure that we reach our destination without any problem even though the Oak Grove Inn website also gives detailed directions in this regard.

But above all, it is the warmth and the personalised attention with the minutest detail of the hosts that will make you want to come back and enjoy their hospitality again and again.

  14. Dear Sir,We heard about your exquisite site from My Coursemate Commander Anil Sharma who recently visited your resort with his entire family.Would be highly grateful if you kindly let us know the tariff for a double bed room for two night stay along with meal charges.

  15. We are just back from a three day vacation at Lansdowne(Jaiharikhal) a hill station in Garhwal about 260 Kms from Delhi via Kotdwara .We stayed at the The Oak Grove Inn which is just short of Lansdowne,a small cantonment town. It provides all comforts of a home stay with privacy and the owners,Colonel Bikram Rawat and his wife spare no efforts to make their guests comfortable who closely monitor all activities of the Inn. It was one of our outstanding vacation we ever had. An ideal hill vacation option from Delhi with serenity, quiet and peace.

  16. Hi 🙋,

  17. Hi!

Myself an Artist, Design consultant and my wife and our children are artist too. We would like to visit your hotel some time in June. Hence looking for some details.

I visited your website but the images of your hotel is too small to understand. Please send me the images of your hotel, each rooms, bathrooms and surroundings of the hotel. If possible please share the nearby market place for daily needs and medicines or first aids.

Also please share the rooms tariff too with images separately.

Looking for your quick positive response

  18. It’s a beautiful place to live. Very reasonable price to live with food. I would suggest to must visit this place. Great hospitality by Mr Rawat n family.

  19. It’s seldom that one finds truly memorable experiences at a “hotel” when you travel frequently, but Oak Grove Inn is special enough to make even a jaded traveler perk up and notice. Cozy rooms, amazing view, really awesome food and great conversations with hosts and other guests alike.
Can’t wait for more, will visit again in July and again and again and again.

  20. A family of 6 with a 8-month old baby, we stayed at Oak Grove Inn for 4 days in May. This stay couldn’t have been any better. Glad we chose this resort and not others. The view was breathtaking and Col. Rawat and Neelam ma’am were a delight to chat with and share stories. Perfect restful vacation!
We took deluxe rooms and a family room. Quite reasonably priced as opposed to other similar resorts.
The best part was the food. Cooks are well-trained and accommodate any specific requests for health reasons.
Col. Rawat’s guidance on where to go and how was a big help, considering our parents couldn’t trek much.
For young couples also… The place in itself is quite a beauty if you don’t want to venture out much.
Overall, we’d love to visit again to get away from the humdrum of the city life. Thanks to the hospitality.
