Post: Oak Grove Inn, Jaiharikhal, Lansdowne, Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand. PIN 246139

Getting to Jaiharikhal

By Road (From Delhi) – about 6 hours travel

The best way to get to us by road is as follows:

Stage 1: Delhi to Meerut 70 kms. If you leave Delhi by 0600 hrs then one can go right through Meerut town upto Begum Bridge and turn RIGHT on the Mawana  road ( NH 119 ). If starting later get on to the Meerut by pass and after going 9 kms take a right turn at the fly over(under construction at the moment) toward Meerut cantt. After 3 kms turn left and proceed for 2.5 kms and take a right turn cross the railway line and turn left to proceed towards Sadar bazaar, Sofia Girls Higher Secondary School and onto the Mawana road.

Break: Stop over at Monty Millions a restaurant just 2 kms out of Meerapur. It has clean rest rooms & you can have breakfast/lunch depending on the time you reach there.

Stage 2: Take a RIGHT turn from here to the barrage over the Ganges 15 kms away then onwards. Bijnor to Kiratpur is 16 kms and from there to Najibabad is 15kms and then another 25 kms to Kotdwara.

Stage 3: 2 kms out of Doggada there is a T-junction. Take the LEFT turn on the PAURI road (the right turn goes to Lansdowne which is 23 kms from this point ). 15 1/2 kms from this turn one has to take a RIGHT turn for Lansdowne and Oak Grove Inn at Jaiharikhal is just 5.2 kms away.

You can download and Print our Road Guide (1 page PDF) here

By Rail (nearest station Kotdwar) – about 8 hours travel (7 hrs train + 1 hr road)

Take a train to Kotdwar railway station (40 km/1 hr from us). The best option is Mussoorie Express (dep: Old Delhi 10:15 pm; arr: Kotdwar 5:20 am) Hire a cab to Lansdowne, should be about Rs 500. We can arrange to pick you up from there.

TIP: Please fill up some fuel at Kotdwara on your way up. It’s cheaper in Uttarakhand than in UP :-)

  1. A beautiful place with beautiful people. A wonderful experience. For the route suggestion for Stage 3 of route while going from Doggada

    - Stage 3: 2 kms out of Doggada there is a T Junc. Take the RIGHT Turn on the PAURI road to the Lansdowne town passing through the cantonment. Once crossing the parade ground and Alaknanda shopping complex, look for the TWO PRONG road and take the right road for JaihariKhal. The road is picturesque and also safe for late evening travellers.
However on way back suggest you to take the above mentioned road at Stage 3

  6. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality that you showered upon us, and of course, all the other families that we met there.

Kudos to the beautiful landscaping, the hang outs and hideouts…hope to see more of such arrangements as you mentioned…

Loved the feel of home away from home, with picturesque views, the misty mornings, the drizzles, the sunshine, the cool breezes, the serenity, the solitude, the innocence and the charm of the untouched greenery.

And spotting flying squirrels, drongos, and other so many different birds (the names I wouldn’t know) in natural surroundings was marvelous.. though missed spotting the leopard.. but still thank you for sharing the video of it.

We enjoyed the treks of about 12-14 kms in different directions…capturing the stillness around us. Loved the dips in the Hauz at Holi Talli village.

How can I forget our charming lil’ cocker spaniels, Archie & Fiffy… such adorable dogs.

We are already missing the great time we had in the wilderness, and had been blabbering :) :) about it to whomsoever we are coming across…

A Big Thank You to you and Aunty for your hospitality. Hope to see you again sometime soon.

    Cheers :)
    Pooja

  7. it was an incredible tour, oak grove inn is an ideal base to camp in :-) the views from the rooms of oak grove are in itself are photogenic. Food was awesome, thanks to Mrs Rawat. Planning to visit again.

  8. hey.. What is the best time to drive from Delhi to Lansdown.. Night or early morning??

    • If u r with family than after 5 am in the morning…and if u r travelling with male friends than u can start in the night around 11 pm and reach there early morning and enjoy the scenic beauty of mountains covered with step farming and pine tress all around from kotdwara to lansdowne….an out of the world experience…and also the river flowing with you till lansdowne while driving…

    • Leave early morning (pref. at 5 AM) from Delhi so that you can avoid Meerut traffic.

  9. The stay with the Rawats was one of the most memorable vacations I’ve had in a very long time. Colonet Rawat and Neelam mam were warm and hospitable, as were the staff. The highlight for me were the meals(a couple of them with the Rawats) that we had in the ‘Hang-Out’. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The food simple and tasty. But above all, it is the behaviour of the hosts that will make you want to come back again.

A few photographs of Lansdowne and the experience in general can be found here-
